The first railway distribution centre for finished vehicles opened in Moscow region


JSC “RailTransAuto”  opened on 23rd of July a railway distribution complex for finished vehicles handling in Mikhnevo (Stupinskiy district of Moscow region). Due to shifting vehicles stream onto railway it will allow to dramatically reduce the quantity of trucks delivering finished vehicles in Moscow region and completely eliminate truck transit volumes. Handling capacity available is for 350 000 cars annually.

 

RailTransAuto, the affiliated company of Russian Railways and one of the leaders of finished vehicles transportation on Russian market, opened on 23rd of July a new railway terminal “Mikhnevo” for finished vehicles handling in Stupinskiy district of Moscow region, total area of which accounts for 15 hectares. Putting into operation a compound assuming and sending the cars by rail due to shifting vehicles stream onto railway will allow to dramatically reduce the quantity of trucks delivering finished vehicles in Moscow region and completely eliminate truck transit volumes through Moscow region to other areas of Russian Federation.

In solemn ceremony of opening took part the delegates from directorship of Russian Railways, Moscow region government, Ministry of transport of Russian Federation, Finnish Railways, world leading automobile manufacturers and logistic companies. On behalf of Governor of Moscow region Boris Gromov welcome speech delivered Deputy Chairman of Moscow region Government and Minister of Transport of Moscow region Petr Katsyv, who brought into focus the ultimate importance of the complex activity for ecological and economical situation in Moscow region. Guests of the terminal were also welcomed by Senior Vice-President of Russian Railways Boris Lapidus, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russian Federation E.S. Moskvichov, Head of Stupinskiy district Administration P.I. Chelpan, Chairman of the board of directors of “Transgroup AS” Ltd. Maksim Liksutov and General Director of RTA Viktor Ivanov.

In the course of the opening the terminal handled 330 cars KIA, arrived from the JSC “Avtotor” plant in new fully covered wagons for finished vehicles transportation of RailTransAuto new model 11-1291. On display was also new articulated wagon model 11-720 for finished vehicles designed by German plant Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau AG, which will be produced for RailTransAuto on “Trasmash” plant in Engels city beginning in 2009. Length of the unique on the Russian market wagon is 41 meter, carrying capacity – 36 ton. According to the company’s General Director Viktor Ivanov, at the end of the year 2010 RTA will  own 5 000 wagons, including 3 000 unites of new fully closed models.

The strategy of RTA is to help to take pressure off the overburdened roads by shifting more freight traffic onto ecologically clean and safe railway transport mode. In “Mikhnevo”, which is the base freight distribution centre of the terminal network of RTA, will be handled approximately 350 000 of cars annually, that makes it the largest railway terminal for handling finished vehicles in Russian Federation. Wagons with cars will come to the new terminal “Mikhnevo” from Japan and Korea through the ports of the Far East, from Europe through the ports of Finland and Kaliningrad region, from China through Zabaikalsk and other rail routes. Cars destinated for sale in Russian regions after the customs clearance will depart from “Mikhnevo” also by railway.

Simultaneously with the terminal opening were dated the replacement of RailTransAuto logotype and corporate style.

JSC RailTransAuto is a joint company set up by JSC “Russian Railways” (51% of shares) and “TransGroup AS” Ltd. (49% of shares). RailTransAuto provides complex logistics services for finished vehicle transportation from manufacturers to dealers.

RailTransAuto operates 2 400 closed double-deck car-carriers, the quantity of owned wagons will reach 5100 by the year 2010.  RailTransAuto develops a network of automobile terminals on the territory of CIS countries -: “Mikhnevo” (Moscow region), “Zarubino” (the Far East), “Chernyakhovsk” (Kaliningrad region), Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Kazakhstan and other important for automotive transportation directions.
