Russia: Mazda to Ship Vehicles on Railroad

The Mazda Motor Corporation will become the first Japanese auto company to ship vehicles within Russia via the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Mazda, which is based in Hiroshima, might begin shipments later this week, said Yekaterina Kulbaka, marketing director for RailTransAuto, which will operate the trains and manage logistics. The carmaker plans to ship 30 percent of its vehicle imports in Russia by railroad to cut transportation expenses, Mr. Kulbaka said. The Trans-Siberian railroad links Vladivostok on the Pacific coast to the European part of Russia.
